The aims

Support, upgrading and development of the existing Collection in San Lorenzo

The Collection, which is due to be entrusted to the FOUNDATION, is considered to be the core of all future initiatives. The upgrading of San Lorenzo di Lerchi estate, where the Collection is currently sited, is a prerequisite condition to its use as a permanent laboratory and showcase for the FOUNDATION’s activities.

Dissemination of the FOUNDATION’s plant varieties and knowledge

This aim entails a thorough study of the varieties, hence careful scientific filing and the implementation of specific research, also taking into consideration their potential use on the primary market and in the process industry.

Research, study and documentation activities

ARCHEOLOGIA ARBOREA may be defined as the first and unique experience of a permanent laboratory on biodiversity and rural landscape; it intends to promote publications on the subject of biodiversity, local knowledge and lore, local agricultural development, landscape; it also aims to act as a network for the collection of information and documents on the abovementioned subjects, thus aspiring to qualify as a specific documentation centre for researchers and scholars.

Education and divulgation

The formation of the FOUNDATION will certainly lead to many more possibilities to welcome schools and organize seminaries. As an example, the FOUNDATION could adhere to the Regional Program for Educational Farms, thus fostering the transmission of the gathered knowledge to children and young people through schools of all grades. The FOUNDATION can also be used as the venue for specific educational private and group lessons and courses about research and conservation methods.

Moreover, the FOUNDATION intends to operate in the publishing sector, through the proposal of subjects that are connected with its specific activities, and also by promoting the anastatic copies or reprints of historical material that may prove to be valuable and useful for research purposes.

National and international promotion and partnerships with other Organizations

The FOUNDATION intends to promote, both nationally and internationally, the conservation of biodiversity, through divulgation initiatives and projects based on field experience; in all probability, this activity will have positive effects upon the Collection, which is due to grow, thanks to the likely starting of new sites and research and conservation projects, both in Italy and abroad.

Restauration and upgrading of the San Lorenzo estate as operative head office of the Foundation

San Lorenzo di Lerchi estate is undoubtly the best location for this project, as it hosts the whole Collection, setting it in a unique natural, rural and historical environment.

The estate covers 07.00.00 ha, located in the territory that belongs to Città di Castello (in the Province of Perugia).

The abovementioned assets are of primary utility in the creation of a venue perfectly suitable for the Foundation’s functions and purposes with the restoration and reconversion of the site.
